3 Steps for Customizing your Pumpkin this Fall

It’s easy to turn into a fab pumpkin stylist and elevate a humble squash right to the top of the A-list for your glam Halloween party. If everyone is dressing up for an elegant evening, make sure your pumpkins are dressed in formal wear, too.

1. Add the Paint

First, choose a pumpkin with an attractive stem, and mask it off with tape. Contrasting stems are chic. Spray your pumpkin white, gold or silver. For more than one pumpkin, spray them all the same color, or mix it up with a variety. Then unwrap the stem and paint with a brush. For a white pumpkin, a silver or gold stem is an elegant touch. For a silver pumpkin, try a gold stem and vice versa. Let the paint dry completely.

2. Add the Bling

Now it’s time to embellish your pumpkin. For an all-over sparkle, use a spray adhesive and then sprinkle glitter over the pumpkin. For swirls, use a paintbrush and liquid glue or a hot glue gun to paint designs on the pumpkin and sprinkle glitter on the wet glue. You can also use a hot glue gun to adhere clear craft rhinestones, craft pearls or metallic ribbons. Even easier – use silver decorative thumb or carpet tacks and just press into the pumpkin in bands, swirls or any design you wish.

3. Add Custom Touches

Use gold or silver metallic craft markers to write a message on the pumpkins. (Tip: You can write names on white mini pumpkins instead of using place cards at a formal fall dinner.)

For a centerpiece or mantel accent, make a blingy pumpkin vase. Slice the top off a pumpkin and hollow it out. Paint the pumpkin exterior white. Add bling as desired. Add water and fill with white flowers such as white camellias, roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, stephanotis or gardenia.
