Healthy Cocktail Mixing Options

Whether celebrating a special occasion, catching up with old friends, or relaxing after a long week at work, cocktails are often a part of social life. They may be tasty, but they can be packed with calories and artificial sweeteners.

Lucky for us, there are healthier natural options for a simple, skinny cocktail (or “mocktail,” if you prefer to go sans alcohol).

Enjoy refreshing flavors without high-calorie sugars or artificial sweeteners with these great, all-natural options:

  • Stevia – Natural, calorie-free and low on the glycemic index, Stevia combines the best of all worlds.
  • Agave Sweeteners – Agave nectar is a popular sweetener that comes from the Mexican Agave cactus plant (which also gives us tequila!). Like honey, agave nectar comes in many different varieties, ranging from light to dark, and is about 25% sweeter than natural sugar — less is more!
  • Honey — Honey is the least appreciated of all sweeteners, but it is also one of the oldest and most delicious! It’s great when added to darker alcohol mixes.
  • Freshly Squeezed Juices — The opportunities are endless with this one. Lime juice in your margaritas, lemons in your strawberry fizz, and tomatoes for your Sunday Bloody Mary — or get creative and make a Whiskey Blood Orange Sour. Thirsty yet?

Cheers!
