Position Description
Grocery Operations Manager
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Manages the center store and receiving departments to promote sales, achieve profit
margins and labor goals, and exceed customer expectations. Provides guidance and
delegation to employees and performs as manager-on-duty as required by the store
staffing model.
COMPANY WIDE RESPONSIBILTIES
- Contributes toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a
positive working environment for employees
- Ensures proper product handling to control shrinkage and waste.
- Follows all company, store and department policies and procedures
- Complies with all federal and state regulations
- Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Financial Performance - Meet or exceed Contribution to Profit (CTP) budget
- Inventory Management – warehouse and vendors
Manages in-stock for all center store departments within the store
Maintains proper in-stock for all shelf and promotional items
Review pre-books for proper stock levels
Manages elements of C.O.R.E. program to ensure implementation
Manages compliance
- Merchandising -
Ensures thorough preplanning and execution of the weekly merchandising
programs
Manages implementation and compliance with plan-o-grams
- Labor Management -
Analyzes sales and work content for total store to develop effective daily/weekly
staffing and scheduling of the department work plans
Meet productivity and operation standards
- Physical Inventory -
Manages proper preparation of the store for physical inventory
- Safety and Sanitation -
Actively supports store safety and sanitation programs
- People Development -
Hires, trains and coaches department staff on policies, procedures, customer
service, and job responsibilities
- Communicates with Store Director and other members of the management team
concerning ongoing department status, including successes, problems and
planning
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES
Directly supervises employees in the center store and receiving departments. Assumes
responsibility for the entire store when acting as Manager-on-Duty. Direct supervision
responsibilities include hiring, firing, disciplinary action, performance reviews, coaching,
developing work improvement plans, training and providing work direction.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school education and five plus year’s supervisory experience in a retail store
environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of
basic algebra and geometry.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires frequent walking, standing, turning, kneeling, reaching, squatting,
and stooping/bending. This position requires occasional lifting/carrying of 15 to 100 lbs.,
pushing/pulling 100 to 2500 lbs., and operation of equipment in the dairy/frozen, grocery
departments, as well as occasional crawling, climbing ladders, and walking on uneven
ground. Examples of the department’s equipment are hand jack, flatbed, fork lift, box
cutter, scanner, telephone, register, and computer. This position also requires judgment,
decision-making, verbal interaction, memorization, math, reading and writing skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a store environment where there is exposure to wet surfaces, and
extended exposure to cold temperatures (38 degrees and -20 degrees). Noise level is
consistent with a retail store environment.
