Position Description
Frozen Food or Dairy Lead
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
To plan and manage the Frozen Food and/or Dairy Department so as to promote sales and achieve profit margins and labor goals. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for associates.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is on ongoing department planning, execution and evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales and profit opportunities, effective cost control and efficient utilization of labor and strong customer service levels. Primary challenge is consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor goals. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department associates, and requires the ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision-making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, moderate to heavy lifting, walking,
operation of pallet jack and box cutter and exposure to cold temperatures. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Director or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
- Develops effective daily/weekly work plan based on weekly sales projections and budgeted labor goals
Analyzes sales and labor projections
Determines work priorities and establishes work lists in order to consistently
maintain adequate department conditions
Determines work needs and writes labor schedule in most effective manner to
meet these needs
Communicates with Store Director concerning ongoing department status,
including successes, problems and planning
Participates in weekly store meetings
- Implements and maintains coordinated aggressive and creative merchandising
using division guidelines, which maximize sales, variety and gross profit
Consistently monitors mix of demand and profit items, shelf allocation, variety,
movement and stock levels to properly order, merchandise and meet sales and
gross profit goals.
Collaborates with vendors on approved space allocation, display and deal buying, and follows through on product quality and credits as appropriate
Ensures for proper product quality, presentation and rotation
Assists with stocking and display building
- Supervises Frozen Foods and/or Dairy associates to ensure efficient labor
utilization and effectiveness in meeting department objectives
Effectively communicates tasks and priorities
Follows up to ensure proper task completion and adheres to store and department
policies and procedures
Monitors sales per man-hour payroll, and adjusts labor to production needs and
work needs
Ensures customers receive prompt and friendly service and assistance from all
associates
- Manages Frozen Food and/or Dairy Department receiving, invoicing, pricing,
shrink control and inventory to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met
Supervises and assists to ensure accuracy and organization of receiving function
Retails invoices accurately and timely, checks credits and transfer slips for
accuracy and verifies purchase journal
Takes accurate inventory
Collaborates with pricing department to ensure department pricing and signing is
accurately maintained for all items and systems, and monitors price sensitive
items in market
Supervises product handling to control shrinkage and waste
- Supervises department safety and sanitation programs
Ensures all associates are properly trained in equipment use, maintenance and
sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules and procedures
Ensures no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipment
Ensures associates use personal protective devices (jacket, thermal gloves, hat)
Conducts department inspections and maintains safety checklist
Checks coolers and freezers for organization and cleanliness
- Performs Frozen Food and/or Dairy Department personnel functions
Ensures all new associates are properly trained to ensure competence in position
and for possible future development
Conducts and ensures all probationary and regular performance reviews are
completed
Provides individual and group guidance and encouragement toward department
objectives
Recommends and administers corrective actions as appropriate
Communicates and works with Store Director and human resources as appropriate
to above functions
Follows all store and department policies and procedures
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent: Physical – lifting 30 to 60 lbs., carrying 30 to 40 lbs.,
pushing/pulling 100 to 2200 lbs., equipment operation (hand jack,
power jack, box cutter), reaching, kneeling, stooping/bending,
turning, walking, standing
Mental –judgment/decision-making, reading, writing, equipment
operation (calculator), math, social/verbal interaction
Environmental – extended time in cooler (38 degrees) and freezer
(-20 degrees)
Occasional: Physical –crawling, walking on uneven ground
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution) preferred but not required
